Crianças e jovens vítimas de maus tratos no Reino Unido

Esta notícia horrível (aqui e aqui) não pode deixar ninguém indiferente (cidadãos e instituições). Como é que foi possível, o que é que falhou no sistema de protecção, porquê?!... Atente-se em duas citações, absolutamente demolidoras:

- "About 1,400 children were sexually exploited in Rotherham over a 16-year period, according to a report that concluded "it is hard to describe the appalling nature of the abuse that child victims suffered".

- "The uncompromising report on events in the South Yorkshire town between 1997 and 2013 said in more than a third of these cases the youngsters were already known to child protection agencies.”

De certeza que medidas adequadas e urgentes (apoiar as vítimas, encontrar e punir os responsáveis, rever o sistema de protecção de crianças e jovens) já estão em curso no Reino Unido... Agora é o tempo de ler e de estudar o relatório, para entender. Ponto.

Pergunta: no Reino Unido não há um Provedor da Criança?! Então (?)... Resposta: sim, há vários, e aqui está o, imediato e claro, comentário da "Provedora da Criança" da Inglaterra ao relatório publicado... Para que conste, é óbvio que a responsabilidade pelo sistema de protecção é do governo de cada uma das "nações" que integram o Reino Unido... Mas sobra ainda uma questão pertinente: a instituição "Provedor da Criança" deve servir para prevenir (ou dissuadir) a ocorrência de situações como as que aconteceram...; parece que no Reino Unido não preveniu... E, depois disto, o que é que (e porque é que e como) falhou?
